Updated PJTC Health & Safety Protocols

To our friends and family in the PJTC and the Greater Pasadena Area community:

We know that the recent emergence and spread of the novel coronavirus COVID-19 is unsettling and has an impact on all our lives. PJTC Clergy, PJTC Staff, and Executive Committee have collaborated to answer the challenge of the COVID-19 global pandemic by finding ways to continue to serve you while keeping all of our community as safe and healthy as possible.

To do so, we are taking guidance from two principles taught in the Talmud:

Pikuach nefesh dohe Shabbat - Action required to save a life supersedes the requirements of the Sabbath. In fact, according to Jewish law and tradition, proactive preservation of life and health takes priority when in conflict with just about any other Jewish value.

Kol Yisrael arevim zeh b'zeh - We are all responsible for one another.

What has changed this weekend: Our building is no longer open for congregants or visitors to attend services in person, until further notice. This was a hard decision for us to make, but we felt it was the right one for the health and safety of all our community.

Also, this weekend we will have an abbreviated Torah reading for Parashat Vayikra. The Torah service will have all the same prayers, we will still be reading Haftarah, but instead of 7 aliyot (because we won't have 7 people present to honor), we will only be reading the Maftir Aliyah, Vayikra/Leviticus 2:14-16.

If you would like a copy of any of our prayer books or Torah reading books, let us know here: Please click here to place your loan delivery order.

Or you can download PDF versions of Siddur Sim Shalom for Shabbat and Holidays here: https://www.rabbinicalassembly.org/form-download-e-siddur-0

In this spirit, we have canceled or moved "online" various events, as well as created updated health & safety protocols to be followed at PJTC. While you will notice changes to day-to-day operations and upcoming events, our commitment to serving and safeguarding every person in our community has not wavered.

Please click to review a document containing full protocol details. If you have questions or concerns, are struggling in any way, or you just need someone to talk to at this challenging time, do not hesitate to contact us at PJTC. Please remember, we are committed to serving you through this difficult time, and we are all in this together.

We send our blessings and pray for good health,

Your PJTC Leadership Team

Welcome to PJTC!

PJTC is a 475 family intergenerational congregation based in beautiful Pasadena, California. Our members hail from throughout the San Gabriel Valley area. We have a vibrant religious school, and share our campus with the Jewish Day School, Weizmann Day School, and Preschool, B’nai Simcha.

PJTC has a long history, and is one of the oldest in the area. Over the many years, other congregations have merged with us, which has provided us with a diverse and rich community.

PJTC seeks to include and accept all those who wish to worship, study, or develop cultural or social ties to Judaism and we warmly welcome interfaith, LGBTQ and non-traditional families into our community.

Our religious services are spiritually uplifting with beautiful music, meaningful participation, prayer, study, along with opportunities for connection, followed by a friendly Oneg Shabbat afterwards.

It is our hope that you will want to join us as we continue to build our warm and welcoming community, and participate with us in any number of our extensive programs.

Mark Your Calendars & RSVP!

We are currently suspending all special events through March 2020. Stay tuned for updates.
